BEST Zagreb Local Engineering Competition

This was a huge project for the Local BEST Group Zagreb. We started with preparation for FR, and it was quite difficult to find partners for LEC but on the end we succeeded. This year we had three companies on our Local Engineering Competition (LEC), and we sold both categories of competition. 1st March-BEST Company day.

With the University of Zagreb we discussed ways how they can support our LEC. We didn’t even dream that the rector of our university would come on the official opening. During

1st March, after the official ceremonies, companies presented themselves to students via stands on the Faculty of Computer science and Electrical engineering.

2nd March-Training day This year we added one more day in our LEC and it was good decision. The whole day we had trainings, some trainings kept by member of BEST and some by professors. There were three trainings:

1) How to write a good CV, there was huge interest for this training and Dea Milovan (active member) held this training two times. 2) Erna Begović held a training about project management 3) The last training was held by professor Tihana Brkljačić about “team communication”

After the training day, some participants left us their contacts by mail, so that we can invite them for other BEST trainings. This day was a huge success for our LEC.

3rd March-Case Study CS bought by VIP, a mobile company from Croatia. We had 6 teams in competition and they were really good. CS had two parts; the first task was to make an optimal mobile tariff for a company, for users and an average tariff. The second part of the task was developing a strategy for promoting this optimal tariff. We had three teams with similar results and on the end the jury (consisting of 3 company employees and one professor) decided on who is the winner.

4th March-Team Design TD bought DOKING, a company which is in serious preparation for production of the new XD electrical car. They put one car during the event in front of our Faculty. This car was a great attraction for our students. The team design which the company gave was to build a Lego car. The car was tested on flat ground and on a 20 degree slope.
We had some conditions, for example the minimum weight had to be 250g. We tested the designs by measuring how much time the car needed to climb on the slope. The winner managed up the slope in 6 seconds.

7th March A delegation of BEST Zagreb visited the President of the Republic of Croatia, and we discussed BEST and our efforts, and we informed him about the LEC and our other projects. We gave him the winner car from our LEC TD as a gift. He took the car and he put it on the floor and started playing with it. This was a perfect ending of our LEC. The idea to organize a lecture for Croatian and foreign students during our summer course was accepted really well. This was a historical day for Local BEST group Zagreb.
